Can I offer my rabbit treats?
Rabbits love all things sweet and are tough to say no to when they beg! However, they shouldn’t be fed human foods. If you can’t resist their puppy dog eyes then suitable treats would be small amounts of any sweet fruits such as apples, bananas and carrot tops. Although these should be fed sparingly.
A great alternative to offering treats is by stimulating your bunnies mind and letting their natural foraging instincts flourish! We provide some great rabbit toys like ball chews, tunnel chews, carrot chews and more – all made from natural products that aid their dental health.
What other types of hay can my rabbit have?
If your furry bunny isn’t enjoying its dinner, you can change the type of grass. Be it Timothy, Ryegrass or Orchard. Meadow and Crau hay are slightly different in that it is made from areas that naturally contain a variety of grasses.
Quality is also hugely dependent on the growing season and the amount of sunshine and rain that the crops receive during the harvest season – no two crops will stay exactly the same.
Read our blog on ‘Types of Hay’, which covers this topic in more detail.
What is the difference between first and second cuts of Timothy hay?
This refers to the number of times a crop has been harvested, not its quality. “First cut” means the hay comes from the initial harvest of the field. After this, the crop is typically fertilised and harvested again about a month later.
The first cut tends to be coarser and longer, while the second cut is softer with shorter stems. This gives your bunny more variety, which is definitely a good thing!
Why choose Happy Hay?
Here at Happy Hay, we pride ourselves on providing a complete service, not just a product. If for whatever reason your pet doesn’t like your order then you can get in touch and we will always do our best to replace it with hay that your rabbit will enjoy!
We have been making hay for over 20 years and have a plethora of equipment that allows us to make the highest quality even when the British summer isn’t giving us the weather we want! Our Hay Boxes are created and packaged at our farm in England, so each bale is quality checked to make sure you’re always getting the best.
Our small business is family-run, so everything we can do for you really means the world to us. You can rest assured that our profits are being distributed ethically and we always give back to the business – because your pet only deserves the best.
Our farm, Eurobale, is proud to hold a Royal Warrant for Her Majesty the Queen, granted in 2010 due to our supply of haylage to the Royal Stud at Sandringham, and for our ability to prove our environmental commitment.

How long will a Bale last a rabbit?
Our 10kg micro-bales typically last 5-6 weeks for two rabbits, although this can vary since each rabbit is different. Most of our customers find this estimate helpful, but individual usage can differ.
